No Baking Tonight

I took the past two days off from work—and yes, I used precious vacation days for a singular purpose: Christmas Cookie Marathon 2025! Production was going swimmingly, with my counter quickly filling up with holiday cheer... until I noticed the water where it shouldn't be: under the kitchen sink.

You honestly can't make this stuff up.

Yesterday, the first leg of the marathon was a success! I had already baked off the Snowballs, the Striped Cookies, and the Gingersnap Biscotti. I was feeling unstoppable—so much so that I had prepped the dough for the Chocolate Crackle Tops, Lemon Shortbread, and Spumoni Cookies for baking today. Then it happened. I reached under the sink for a dishcloth and discovered a rogue puddle.

A frantic call to Jiffy Plumb (their motto is "Don't Be Dumb, Call Jiffy Plumb") set us up for a noon appointment today. I knew I couldn't waste precious time, so I squeezed in a frantic three-hour bake session this morning. I managed to get the Lemon Shortbread and most of the Spumoni Cookies finished, but the Chocolate Crackle Tops had to wait for the plumber's verdict.

Thankfully, our technician, Jose—who, get this, is a fellow baker—finished the repair by 1:30 PM! I immediately jumped back in, baking the Mosaic Biscotti and finishing the remaining Spumoni batch.

With the sink fixed, the only cookies left are a possible batch of Jelly Belly and the classic Anginettes.

Long story short: After the day's stress—and a strict edict put in place by yours truly—baking was officially over for the night. I have small Portuguese rolls which should hold us over a day or two for something to have with our morning coffee.
