I'm Back!

Finally off the injured list.

A few weeks back I fell in our driveway and cut open my elbow clear through to the bone. I have never said the "f" word more times than I did that morning, Yeah it really hurt. Also may have done some damage to my shoulder but that will have to wait until mid-October.

Tonight I made bread and cookies. The bread was an Apple Babka which I started before I left for work this morning. The recipe was from Mandylicious: The Challah Guru. For some reason divided the dough into four, following the recipe, completely forgetting that I was cutting the recipe in half. Well, I ended up with 2 small loaves. Hey, that's not a bad thing. I think I need to buy small loaf pans. The ones I used are round and well let's say I am not sure if they will be Instagramable!

There is suppose to be a sugar glaze on top of the bread. We are not super sweet eaters in the morning so I may skip that.

And Cookies!!! I was informed two nights that we were officially out of cookies. I opted for my Mom's Chocolate Cookie recipe. I used butterscotch chips, expresso chips, and milk chocolate chips. I should have used heath bar chips. That would have been the best combo.

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe


2 1/4 cup sifted flour

1 tsp salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp hot water

1 tsp baking soda

12 oz. chocolate chips, mix in any variety

1 cup oatmeal

1 cup flaked coconut

1 cup Rice Krispies


Blend butter and sugar and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Sift flour and salt. Blend hot water and baking soda. Add baking soda and flour to butter mixture. Add all other ingredients except the Rice Krispies. Stir in the Rice Krispies by hand, do not use the mixer (you don't want to overbeat them). Roll them into about a teaspoon size balls. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
